Stirling County’s Boroughmuir win keeps season alive

STIRLING County’s victory sets up an enthralling conclusion to the season when they travel to Dundee on Saturday with a clutch of teams still jostling for both a British & Irish Cup place and to avoid relegation, as their head coach Graeme Young was quick to point out.

“It’s all to play for still for both of us,” he said. “We have to go up to Dundee and give as good a performance as we can.”

His charges will travel to Mayfield with confidence after a convincing win against relegated Boroughmuir, whose coach Fergus Pringle was sanguine in searching for positives.

“In the first half, we were poor. Our set-piece was poor and let us down and we were dominated in the collisions,” he acknowledged.

“But, as a group, the guys will benefit from what we’ve been through. We have to try to keep this group together, as we have a lot of young boys who will learn from this.”

Stirling were good value for their win, five tries to two telling its own story in a contest in which County always led.

Alex Moffat, Ben Addison, Byron McGuigan, Brian Archibald and Tim Clarke all breached the visiting defence.

Archibald was on target to convert three of the tries and add a penalty.

Boroughmuir had to wait until midway through the second half to get on the scoreboard with touchdowns for Neil Rodger and Jordan Edmunds. Ali Warnock added the extras.

Now it goes down to the wire for Stirling, while Boroughmuir begin rebuilding.
