Stirling County 19 - 27 Currie: History repeats itself

History has a habit of repeating itself and did so agonisingly for Stirling.

The last time these sides met, back in September, Currie staged grand larceny to come from behind and steal an unlikely win at Malleny Park, edging the contest 27-24. And they did the same again under the floodlights at Bridgehaugh yesterday.

County had managed to outplay their visitors in the opening 40 minutes and were ahead 19-5 at the interval courtesy of touchdowns from lock Adam Sinclair, scrum-half Matt Donaldson and centre Craig Pringle, two of them converted by Jonny Hope. Currie in return had only a score from full-back Harvey Elms.

After the break, Currie improved, injecting far more pace into their game and were rewarded when Elms went over in the corner, Jamie Forbes adding the extras.

Currie pressure had Stirling under the cosh and Stephen Ainslie drove over for an unconverted try. They then secured the win – and a bonus point – when Ben Robbins intercepted a pass and sprinted home, Forbes converting and then adding a penalty in injury time that rubbed salt in Stirling wounds.
