Stirling County: 13 - 18 Heriot’s: Deserved win for Heriot’s

Heriot’s continued their improvement with a deserved win, writes Martin Laing at Bridgehaugh.

The Edinburgh men took the game to County from the off and were rewarded early on when sustained pressure resulted in a penalty by
Graham Wilson.

County, though, pinned back the Edinburgh men and earned a penalty, which the usually reliable Brian Archibald missed.

The centre made amends after 24 minutes when he chipped over a kick after Jason Hill was yellow-carded for deliberate foul play.

Stirling failed to capitalise on their numerical advantage and it was the visitors who went in front when Michael Maltman breenged over the line. Wilson added the extras.

Heriot’s extended their lead when Wilson was again on target with the boot.

Archibald narrowed the deficit two minutes later but fluffed a simple chance shortly after that and his profligacy was to prove costly as a third missed kick encapsulated Stirling’s hapless efforts.

Heriot’s iced the cake late on when James Fleming grabbed a try with a splendid solo effort, although Wilson was unable to convert.

The last word went to County when Rory Hughes went over in the corner. Archibald was on target with the boot, but it was too little too late.
