Stephen Gemmell names his squad for Moscow 7s

Scotland 7s head coach, Stephen Gemmell yesterday named a familiar-looking squad to travel to Moscow for the Rugby World Cup 7s from Friday 28 to Sunday 30 June.

London Scottish full-back Jim Thompson has made the squad, while the remaining 11 are full-time Scotland 7s players.

Colin Gregor returns as captain for his third Rugby World Cup 7s, with Scotland’s top try scorer Andrew Turnbull also making his third outing.

It will also be Scott Riddell, Colin Shaw and Thompson’s second Rugby World Cup 7s.

Making their first trip to a Rugby World Cup 7s are Mark Robertson, Michael Fedo, Struan Dewar, Alex Glashan, Chris Dean, Michael Maltman and James Johnstone.

Gemmell said: “We’ve selected an experienced squad. It’s an exciting opportunity for all involved to be going to a Rugby World Cup 7s, and in a place like Moscow.

“We have a big challenge ahead in our group with Russia, Japan and South Africa and only the winner going through to the Cup competition.”
