After ending a nine-game losing streak in the tournament with a 36-20 win in Rome 12 days ago, the 30-year-old said the pressure has merely shifted to a desire for victory on home turf.

“There’s always that pressure every time you play for Scotland,” he said. “You’ve got to embrace that. We want to win this weekend. Make no doubt about it.”

He added: “We win and lose together. The players are 100 per cent behind me and we feel we are going in the right direction.”
