Shoulder operation puts end to Matt Scott’s season

SCOTLAND centre Matt Scott’s season is over after it was revealed he has undergone shoulder surgey.

The news comes as a disappointment as his club Edinburgh aim to finish the season on a high by securing a top-six Guinness Pro12 spot and a place in the European Challenge Cup final. However, it had become clear of late that the shoulder injury he picked up in the final RBS Six Nations match with Irealnd at BT Murrayfield was looking fairly serious. It is the second time within a year the centre has had a shoulder operation.

An Edinburgh statement read: “It had been hoped that Matt would be able to manage his injury conservatively but following consultation with specialists at Spire Murrayfield the decision to perform an investigative arthroscopy was taken. This resulted in him requiring a further surgical procedure to help deal with his shoulder complaints.

“Matt will now continue with his rehabilitation programme with the Edinburgh Rugby medical team and will be unavailable to play for the rest of the season.”

Denton suffered a head knock in Saturday’s defeat to Munster and is now being monitored under the return to play protocols to see if he has any chance in being involved in this Friday’s European Challenge Cup semi-final.
