Sean Everitt predicts 'big season' for Edinburgh back-row as contract signed

26y/o vows to ‘be someone the group can lean on’ after penning extension

Connor Boyle has been tipped for a "big season" by head coach Sean Everitt after penning a new one-year contract with Edinburgh Rugby.

The 26-year-old back row made his comeback from a serious long-term knee injury in December, coming off the bench away to Castres in the Champions Cup, before going on to make seven appearances before the end of the campaign.

Boyle, who came through the Edinburgh academy, has shown his versatility by starting recent matches against Ulster at openside flanker and Zebre Parma at number eight.

Everitt believes the former Scotland Under-20 captain can become a team leader next season as Edinburgh look to improve on their disappointing 12th place finish in the United Rugby Championship.

“What Connor has shown over the past twelve months is the kind of character that defines this group," Everitt said. "Coming back from a long-term injury of that nature takes real mental strength, and he’s done it the right way – quietly, diligently, without fuss.

“He’s an Edinburgh man, born and bred, and that matters. He understands what this club means to the supporters and what it means to wear this jersey. Connor has really stepped up in a leadership capacity around this squad, and I think 2026/27 is going to be a big season for him. We’re delighted to have him with us.”

Boyle will bring up his half century of Edinburgh appearances the next time he pulls on the jersey and the former Stewart's Melville College pupil has vowed to stand up and become a player that his team-mates can lean on over the next 12 months.

“This club means everything to me – it always has," he said. "Growing up here, coming through the pathway, pulling on this jersey for the first time – none of that is lost on me, and it never will be.

“The last year and a bit has been the hardest of my career but I never once thought about giving up. I worked as hard as I’ve ever worked to get back out on that pitch, and I feel like I’m getting back to my best. There’s still so much I want to give.

“I know I’m not one of the young guys anymore, and honestly, I’m relishing that. I want to be someone the group can lean on – in training, on matchday, wherever I’m needed.

“What I can promise is this: I will always give 100% for this jersey. That’s not something that’s ever changed, and it’s not something that ever will.”
