Scotland suffer injury blow ahead of autumn Tests: ‘I think we’re talking a fracture-dislocation’

Match stopped for eight minutes as Onyeama-Christie receives treatment

Andy Onyeama-Christie, the Scotland back-row forward, suffered a serious ankle injury in Saracens’ 17-10 loss to Harlequins at the Twickenham Stoop, which will almost certainly rule him out of the Autumn Nations Series.

The incident happened after just six minutes and the match had to be stopped for eight minutes as the flanker received treatment for a suspected fracture and dislocation.

It’s the latest in a serious of injuries suffered by the player who didn’t go on Scotland’s summer tour after breaking his arm last season and missed out on the 2023 Rugby World Cup, also because of a broken arm.

“It doesn’t look great, I don’t think,” Saracens director of rugby Mark McCall said of Onyeama-Christie’s latest injury. “I think we’re talking a fracture-dislocation of his ankle, so that’s the big thing today, really, and just so gutted, everybody is. He’s had a real tough three years, [with] two broken arms, and for that to happen it’s just horrendous for him, so our thoughts are with him.”

Onyeama-Christie was taken to hospital but was seen watching the match on his phone as he lay on a trolley waiting to be seen in a video posted on the player’s TikTok channel.

Scotland open their autumn campaign against Fiji on November 2, then play South Africa, Portugal and Australia over successive weekends. All matches are at Murrayfield.

Onyeama-Christie, 25, played in four of Scotland’s Six Nations matches last season after a highly impressive campaign for Saracens.
