Scotland rugby unveil new alternate playing kit

KELLY Brown and Matt Scott helped to launch Scotland’s new alternate playing kit today, which will be worn for the first time in the Autumn Test against South Africa in November.

Earmarked as the ‘Armed Forces’ international to celebrate Scottish Rugby’s long association with the services, the Springboks will visit the capital on November 17th for the match, building on a similar fixture last year.

Brown and Scott were on hand at RAF Leuchars to unveil the new kit, with the former in the cockpit of a Typhoon aircraft, before being joined by his international team mate, both wearing flying suits.

The pair then unzipped the outfits, revealing the striking new change kit.

Made by Macron, the kit sees a predominantly white shirt teamed with blue shorts and white and blue socks. The shirt has purple panels on the sides and blue shoulders, with a Saltire design on the upper left.

Brown said he liked the new ‘smart’ kit, adding: “I was really taken by the new Scotland jersey that was unveiled last month – very classy. Now this shirt has some of the saltire in it and a bit purple too, which makes me think of heather.”

Dominic McKay, Scottish Rugby’s Director of Commercial Operations, Communications and Public Affairs, said : “We’re delighted to unveil the new alternate kit and to announce that our match against South Africa will be the Armed Forces international.

“We’ve always had a proud link to our Armed Forces – for example flypasts from the squadron at RAF Leuchars – so it was fitting that we did the launch of the new kit at RAF Leuchars today.”
