Scotland keep IRB ranking after Argentina win

SCOTLAND’S 41-31 victory over Argentina in the first Autumn International has ensured Vern Cotter’s men remain eighth in the IRB World Rankings.

Scotland’s rating has improved as a result of the victory at BT Murrayfield, and sit one place ahead of Japan, who swapped 11th place with 9th-placed Samoa, while Argentina stay 10th.

Australia are up to third as a result of their 33-28 victory over Wales and New Zealand’s 24-21 win over England at Twickenham.

As a result, the southern hemisphere dominate the top three positions, with New Zealand top with 93.70 rating points, South Africa second with 89.02 and Australia in third with 85.44 points.

England drop to fourth after their defeat to the All Blacks, who will celebrate five years at the top of the rankings this Sunday.

JP Pietersen’s last-gasp try for South Africa kept Ireland fifth - Josef Schmidt’s team would have climbed above Australia if the margin of defeat had been greater than 15 points.

France’s victory over Fiji in Marseille saw them up one place to sixth, while Fiji stayed in 12th.

Italy remained 14th despite thier victory over Samoa.

The USA rose to 16th, up two places from 18th after defeating Romania in Bucharest.

Tonga and Canada improved their ratings but not their positions after respective victories over Georgia (15th) and Namibia (22nd).

Uruguay and Russia stay 19th and 20th.
