STUART HOGG

9 - Produced a lethal finish as he danced over for Scotland’s first score and also an inventive touch as he set up Tim Visser for the third.

TOMMY SEYMOUR

7 - Not much chance to let loose at Les Bleus’ defence but solid in defence and again impressive under the high ball.

DUNCAN TAYLOR

9 - Enjoyed his shift at outside centre as he was given licence to run. Made the most of it, producing fantastic burst for Scotland’s second try.

ALEX DUNBAR

8 - Back after a year of injury frustration but showed no signs of rustiness as he carried and tackled with intensity.

TIM VISSER

7 - Caught out for Guilhem Guiardo’s opening try as he failed to get to grips with Wesley Fofana but finished superbly to put Scotland in touching distance of victory.

FINN RUSSELL

5 - Lasted just four minutes before he was left wobbling by a sickening head clash with Gael Fickou.

GREIG LAIDLAW (C)

8 - The skipper celebrated winning his 50th cap – and his 25th Test as captain – with 14 points and another commanding display as he managed Scotland’s dominance.

AL DICKINSON

8 - Pushed Rabah Slimani back at every scrum exchange as the front-row set the platform for victory.

ROSS FORD

8 - An industrious display from the hooker in the loose and also had the measure of his opposite number at the set-piece.

W P NEL

8 - The Edinburgh prop carried with bravery at every opportunity. Another who excelled at the scrum.

RICHIE GRAY

9 - Yesterday’s Murrayfield win was one of his finest displays in a Scotland jersey. Stood up to French provocation as he matched their physicality blow for blow.

JONNY GRAY

8 - Continues to grow at international level and can now claim to be one of the top second-rowers in the northern hemisphere.

JOHN BARCLAY

7 - Was not the force he has been at the breakdown elsewhere during the championship but spotted the chink in French defence which lead to Hogg’s try.

JOHN HARDIE

8 - Stopped absolutely everything that came his way. The Edinburgh flanker is quickly establishing himself as one of Scotland’s most important figures.

JOSH STRAUSS

7 - In for his first start of the tournament but the No 8 did not carry as well and frequently as Vern Cotter would have hoped for. Still, he maintains his impressive 100 per cent Six Nations Championship record.

Peter Horne (for Russell 5)

Had to step into the fray early but performed well. 6

Ryan Wilson (for Strauss 62)

Added energy to Scotland late in the game. 6

Stuart McNally (for Ford 68)

Kept the Scottish pack on top. 5

Moray Low (for Nel 73)

Took advantage of tired Jefferson Poirot to win late penalty. 4

Tim Swinson (for R Gray 78)

Not enough time to make an impact. 4
