Sale 33 - 28 Edinburgh: Sharks overpower capital side

The English side turned up the power after the break, and their stick-it-up-the-jumper style of rugby turned a game, which had been even in the first half, into something of a procession. Centre Will Addison gave the home side an early lead, with stand-off AJ MacGinty adding the extras, but Rory Scholes quickly answered in kind for Edinburgh, with Duncan Weir slotting the conversion.

Edinburgh new boy Viliami Fihaki then picked up a yellow card for a late tackle and, while he was off the field, lock Jonathan Mills restored Sale’s lead, MacGinty again converting.

However, Will Helu found acres of space down the narrow side for a try, with Weir’s conversion restoring parity, only for Sale to go back in front just before the break, Cameron Neil touching down and MacGinty converting.

Stuart McInally then scored from a lineout drive and Weir’s conversion drew  Edinburgh level at 21-21.

However, tries from Mills and Johnny Leota, both off driven lineout mauls, with Dan Mugford converting the Leota try, saw Sale home, in spite of a splendid late solo try from Blair Kinghorn, which he himself converted.

Sale deserved their victory but Edinburgh were far from  disgraced.
