An online petition signed by over 5,000 people wants the song ditched.

The petition reads: “We, the undersigned, request that you, ITV, remove Paloma Faith from the Rugby World Cup in order to make it a more enjoyable experience for all spectators.”

The singer has previously said that she was “quite pleased” with her version of a song, which was first used at the 1991 tournament when it was sung by Dame Kiri Te Kanawa.

“Some people are slating it, I feel like they don’t like change, but I don’t mind,” Faith said.

A spokesperson for ITV said: “We are happy with Paloma’s rendition.” But one petitioner wrote: “It is awful. Truly awful.”
