Rugby briefs: Scotland U-18 | London Welsh

FOR the second time in just over three weeks, Scotland take on England at under-18 level when they face their southern neighbour in the semi-finals of the FIRA-AER tournament in Grenoble today.

The Scots lost to England 57-13 at Darlington earlier this month in their opening international match, but since then they have achieved wins over Ireland at Hamilton and, most spectacularly, against Wales in the first round of
the FIRA tournament on
Friday.

“The boys are very much focused on a strong performance against England,” said Scotland Under-18 head coach Eddie Pollock.

England, however, are the FIRA-AER defending champions and will be strong favourites to win having cruised through their first round against Portugal with a 14-try victory.

• AVIVA Premiership club London Welsh are set to discover today the outcome of their appeal against a five-point deduction and £15,000 fine.

The club last week appealed a panel of inquiry’s decision earlier this month to deduct them five league points, issue a fine and impose a further five-point deduction suspended until the end of next season.

The punishment was handed out for fielding an ineligible player – scrum-half Tyson Keats – in ten Premiership games this season.

The points deduction sent London Welsh bottom of the Premiership.

They are five points behind 11th-placed Sale Sharks with only four league games left.

Mike Scott, their former team manager, has been banned for life from rugby after he admitted supplying false information regarding Keats, including a forged passport,
to the RFU.
