Rob Cairns at the double for rampant Boroughmuir

Boroughmuir continued their march towards the RBS National League title with a bonus point win at GHA on Saturday.

The visitors secured a four-try bonus for the eighth time in nine matches to reach the midway point in the campaign with a 12-point advantage at the top of the table after two late touchdowns finally saw off a ­determined GHA side.

Rob Cairns claimed a double for Boroughmuir, while Trent Sutton and Josh Edmunds bagged one apiece, with James Couper and Hefin O’Hare crossing the whitewash for the hosts.

Boroughmuir’s dominant position in the league standings was bolstered when their closest pursuers, Watsonians, suffered a 14-13 derby defeat away to Stewart’s Melville.

Matt Morrell touched down for the hosts and Nick McCashin booted three penalties, while a try by Matt Brierley was converted by Ben Di Rollo, who also landed two penalties as Watsonians came up just short.

A battle for the runners-up spot and a promotion play-off place is brewing after Selkirk closed to within two points of second place with a 15-13 win at home to Dundee High. Josh Welsh was the match winner for the hosts with five penalties in response to a try by Chris Cumming and eight points from the boot of Bryce Hosie.

Kelso also remain in the hunt after they chalked up a 25-16 victory over Peebles at the Gytes, while Biggar posted a first win of the season when they saw off Hillhead/Jordanhill 24-10 in the basement battle at Hartreemill.

Meanwhile, Cartha Queens Park tightened their grip on top spot in RBS Championship A when they emerged as 20-3 winners in the top of the table clash at Marr.

Peter Hollier and Chris O’Connor touched down for a try apiece and Wayne Burrows kicked the other points as Cartha moved three points clear in the league table, while Rory McGee slotted a three-pointer for the home side.

The defeat for Marr enabled Falkirk to climb into second spot with a 25-22 win at home to Hamilton Bulls in a tense ­encounter that went to the wire.

Whitecraigs maintained their interest in the title race when they eased to a 34-6 win over Dumfries, while bottom side Dalziel lost 20-18 at West of Scotland and Ardrossan Accies saw off Greenock Wanderers 30-8.

Long-time pace-setters Jedforest surrendered top spot in Division B after their match at Lasswade was postponed with the home side suffering a front row crisis.

Musselburgh took full advantage, touching down 15 times as they saw off a weakened Hawick YM side 89-10 to assume the role of league leaders.

Howe of Fife produced eight tries in a ruthless first-half showing which took them to the break with a 50-0 lead on their way to posting a 62-21 win in their derby against Kirkcaldy to form part of a three-team group that has broken clear at the top.

Elsewhere, Haddington were 34-11 winners over basement side Murrayfield Wanderers, while Livingston posted a 26-16 success over Aberdeenshire.
