RBS Regional Cup: Heriot’s rack up a ton against Lasswade

HERIOT’S, Ayr and Hamilton were in the points this weekend as all three secured comfortable RBS Regional Cup victories.

Heriot’s put Lasswade to the sword 109-0 at home with Max Learmonth leading the way with five tries. Ayr kept hold of the Bill McLaren Shield after a 74-11 victory at Ardrossan Accies. Early on, the hosts led 6-5 but, by the interval, Ayr were 24-6 to the good after the earlier try by 
Sylvain Diez was added to by Calum Forrester, Robbie Fergusson and Cammy Taylor. Ayr took complete control in the second 40 minutes and teenage winger Gavin Lowe grabbed a hat-trick of tries and kicked a number of conversions while his fellow youngster Murray Beckwith was among the other tryscorers.

Hamilton came flying out of the blocks at Burnbrae, building a 33-0 half-time lead against hosts West of Scotland on their way to a 71-0 win. Owen McLeish, Andy Hill, Adam Barnett and Grant McCowan scored the tries in the first half, while a penalty try was also awarded. After the break Steve Turnbull, Craig Inglis, John Selfridge, Scott Whiteside, Andy Robertson and Ross Inglis went over in this 
one-sided affair.

As well as the Heriot’s-Lasswade match there were three other RBS Edinburgh Regional Cup matches on Saturday. Currie turned on the style to win 45-7 at Musselburgh, while Edinburgh Accies edged out Boroughmuir 17-12 and Biggar got the better of Murrayfield Wanderers 20-17.

In the RBS West Regional Cup, Glasgow Hawks made it three wins from three in the group stages with a 31-5 win at Whitecraigs. Callum Kerr, Ross Miller, Jack McFarlane, Miller again and Ally Maxwell went over for Hawks with Whitecraigs’ only score coming through a try by Ryan Moffat. GHA defeated Hillhead/Jordanhill 33-23 and Greenock Wanderers got the better of Dumfries 20-14.
