RBS Premiership: Accies gain hope in relegation fight

Saturday’s rearranged RBS Premiership encounter brought a reversal of fortunes for the respective coaches.

Stirling’s Graeme Young had helped mastermind Scotland’s Club International win over Ireland on Friday evening, while Simon Cross of Accies saw his Scotland Under-20s succumb to their Welsh counterparts.

It was Cross, however, who emerged victorious at Raeburn Place as the hosts secured four league points, which are crucial to their survival effort, while the visitors had to settle for a narrow defeat bonus from a match in which victory would have virtually secured their place in next season’s top ten. The result
condemns Boroughmuir to the drop.

Accies struck first through a try from Nyle Godsmark but trailed 10-8 at half-time after Stirling bagged tries through Steve Swindall and Struan Robertson before Ruaridh Bonner slotted a penalty for the hosts. Accies spurned a bunch of opportunities before Matt Coupar eventually scored with eight minutes to play.
