Rangers '˜should bring back Mike Ashley,' says Alan Brazil

Radio pundit and former Scotland international Alan Brazil has insisted that Rangers should bring in Ally McCoist or Alex McLeish and consider bringing Mike Ashley back into the fold.

Speaking on talkSPORT this morning, Brazil - who made more than 150 appearances for Ipswich Town - claims that there is ‘no serious money’ at Ibrox and that things need to change at the top.

Brazil also said ahead of Rangers’ home match with second-place side Aberdeen that the club should consider bringing Mike Ashley back in if he leaves Newcastle United.

The ex-Scotland striker said: “If Mike Ashley sells Newcastle it wouldn’t be a bad idea to get him back in and change at the top. Because it’s clear to me [at Rangers], at the top, there is no serious money.

“They are just paddling, they’re not going one way or another, they’re going backwards.”

It’s not the first time Brazil has called for Rangers to reacquaint themselves with the Sports Direct supremo.

He claimed in October, in the same week that Ashley put the Magpies up for sale - that Gers fans would ‘have him back tomorrow’, saying: “Rangers fans couldn’t wait to get Ashley out the door. But the way things are going at the moment they’d have him back tomorrow - the ones who are in the know.”

And Brazil also suggested that the Gers should be looking at Ally McCoist or Alex McLeish as Pedro Caixinha’s successor.

Brazil continued: “Come on! Alex McLeish or Ally McCoist, get them in. I’ve said all along about Rangers, they need someone in there who knows what it’s all about, who knows the club.

“Ally left, so maybe Ally’s out of it. But Alex McLeish would dive at that. It’s not a quick fix, they’re miles behind and I mean miles behind. They should be second to Celtic regardless.

“You need someone in there who understands what the club means to the supporters all around the world, not just Glasgow.

“Then with the right investment and the right man in charge they can close that gap but at the moment they’re not even second.”

Rangers host Aberdeen this evening, hoping to make up some ground on third-placed Hibs, who travel to Partick Thistle on Saturday.
