'Not sure that was good for my wee Scottish heart,' 'Never shouted so much', 'Brightened the wet and cold pandemic Saturday' : Fans react to Scotland win over England

Scotland had supporters at home – and across the rugby world – on the edge of their seats with the dramatic conclusion to the win over England at Twickenham.

But 38 years after the last one, Scotland fans were toasting a win – and being congratulated – in social media celebrations to mark the 11-6 win and reclaiming of the Calcutta Cup.

@JenofJollyness: “I’ve never shouted so much at a Scotland game. Absolutely incredible! Well done to the whole team, you did it!"

@jojo_kittycat: “Get in. Ya beauty! Over the moon for the Scotland team and I’m not even a rugby fan!”

@chateauxwindy: “Great win lads! Should have had the cigars out the last 20 you were so dominant but the win is all that matters.”

@falconerstuart: “To all my lovely colleagues and friends in England I am sorry (not sorry) but YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAS! Get in ya pure belter!”

@Wilson_C01: “Smashing match today fellas. Hogg, Redpath, Watson and Maitland were rampant today. Feared the worst when Finn had to sit out 10 but didn’t even bother the scoreboard. Amazing start, let’s keep it up!”

@BruceHenderson2: “Wow! Well done, not sure how good that was for my wee Scottish heart but awesome, brilliant, fantastic and so very much deserved. Best wishes for the games ahead, need to sit down and rest my voice!”

@StrathallanSchl: Outstanding performance. Delighted to see former pupils @ZanderFagerson @FagersonMatt @Jamie_T_Ritchie help Scotland secure a historic win.

@susie_mullen: “My neighbours just got an earful of whoops and cheers!!! Fantastic game...something to celebrate in 2021! Well done boys... so proud of you!”

Not everyone was happy though.

@millssyyy: “Absolute disgrace from the ref. The amount of penalties he gave to England and we still managed to win! Should have won by at least 45. I’m actually disgusted at that.”

@PaulFor09511437: “Real bitter sweet. Been to Twickenham since 1995 and had to watch this beautiful win from home. What a performance from 1-15. Jonny Gray was awesome.”

@MaryBurnside8: “The fans might not be in the stadium but we are so with you, here at home what a huge lift of spirit and camaraderie, well done the boys. Strong all the way.”

And there was support from further afield and plenty of rival Six Nations sides sent their support too.

@huntyhouse: “Well done Scotland. Hopefully we'll get a new manager soon. So tired of watching England No. 9's just aimlessly hoofing the ball away. If May doesn't get there, no one does. Stupid.”

@LlionRhys2: “I honestly cannot remember seeing England outclassed like this in Twickenham, what a performance by Scotland! A well deserved victory! Dominance from start to finish and what a defensive effort! Congratulations Scotland from a Welshman you were ruthless today.”

@FitzChain: “Outstanding Scotland. Brightened the wet and cold pandemic Saturday here in Ireland. We were cheering ourselves hoarse for you. The poor dog is refusing to come out from under the couch. Absolutely delighted. See you (figuratively) on the 14 March.”

@PJdons: “Just amazing. Fantastic effort from every player. Giving me heart failure at the end. Dominated even when down to 14. What a way to kick off the 6 nations. Buzzing.”

@gavinmannspage: “A few expletives when we went for a drop goal at the end, but still, superb performance. More of the same for the next game please.”
