’Muir can climb table after key win, says Rose

With second bottom playing bottom at Meggetland it was always going to be edgy, and in the first 20 minutes there were more mistakes from both sides than you would normally see in a full match. But things did improve and there were glimpses of individual brilliance from the likes of stand-offs Chris Laidlaw and Alex Glashan to brighten up proceedings.

And for Boroughmuir, who had lost six out of seven league matches before this, the most important thing was the win. They fought back from 9-7 and 16-10 down with tries from Laidlaw and replacement winger Sep Visser.

Rose, who was his usual industrious self in the back row, said: “We knew this would be a tough match because Accies had a couple of wins before the break for the Autumn Tests.

“Things didn’t really go for us early on, but we were still in the match at half-time and we just asked the guys to stay patient and composed and the points would come. Chris Laidlaw then sparked us into life a bit with a good try and that gave us the confidence to get another one to secure the victory.

Laidlaw, who is now fully fit having missed a large chunk of the season, was in good form while Edinburgh Rugby man Stuart McInally made some telling contributions from hooker until forced off with a knock.

Accies look a much better side than they were a few months ago, and with Glashan and Jack Marples making inroads from 10 and 12 they have the armoury to trouble defences. But their collective decision making needs to improve if they are to secure any wins before the Christmas and new year break.

By the interval Accies were 9-7 up, their points coming from three Glashan penalties while ’Muir had scored a converted try through Rose. A Laidlaw penalty after the break put the hosts 10-9 up before Glashan bagged a converted try for the visitors.

The rest of the afternoon belonged to Boroughmuir, with Laidlaw’s fine try being added to six minutes from time by one for Visser.
