Morton 1 - 1 Falkirk: Bairns steal Cappielow side's glory

Two games into the campaign and Morton are in dire needed of a change of script, as for the second Saturday in succession they left the field having been the better team, enjoyed the lead for most of the encounter yet with only a share of the points to show for their endeavours.

This week it was an even later 
body blow which picked their pocket in even more underserved fashion than was the case seven days previously when St Mirren nabbed a late point, having been under the cosh from pretty much the opening whistle.

Morton, who threatened early on with a clever Michael Tidser effort, again started better and brighter than their opponents and again took a first-half lead through a central defender; Lee Kilday ramming home from six yards following a truly amateurish spill from Deniz Mehmet in the Falkirk goal.

Jim Duffy will have been happy with his troops at the interval, even if they should have been more than a solitary goal ahead. They passed up one glorious chance through Rikki Lamie, who with Jai Quitongo and Jamie Lindsay both screaming for the ball in oceans of space opted to wastefully shoot wide from distance.

Falkirk were a little more involved after the break, with Bob McHugh forcing Derek Gaston into a good save low to his right, but a wild free kick from Aaron Muirhead – which landed closer to Port Glasgow than the netting – seemed to sum up Falkirk’s afternoon.

However, as was the case last week, Morton failed to get a killer second and ultimately sat back too deep, with Luke Leahy latching on to a long Myles Hippolyte throw to nudge the ball home deep inside stoppage time.
