Kevin Bryce heading for Edinburgh

GLASGOW tighthead Kevin Bryce is to follow his brother Glenn in making the switch to Edinburgh in the summer, it has been revealed.

The former hooker, who was a late injury call-up to the World Cup squad last year, will join Edinburgh from the start of season 2016/17 on a two-year contract.

Bryce said: “I like the culture of the club, I know a lot of the players either through Scotland or age grade and I’m looking forward to being part of it and adding to the mix.”

The 27-year-old from Alloa is the son of Jock, who was in the Heriot’s team that won the Scottish club championship in 2000. His full-back brother Glenn had already signed for Edinburgh earlier this year and the pair will be joined by Scotland stand-off Duncan Weir in making the inter-city switch.

Bryce added: “It’s been rugby for me, my brother and my dad. Are there any more of us? Glenn has a twin sister – she doesn’t play but comes along to support!”

The former age-grade flanker and 2007 John Macphail scholar switched to front row and signed for Glasgow in 2013. He was capped twice on the 2014 summer tour and was called into the World Cup pool when Stuart McInally suffered an injury on the eve of the tournament, with Bryce featuring in the pool game against the United States.

He decided to switch position again, this time to tighthead prop after the tournament in England and Bryce explained: “The more I thought about and discussed it, the more I thought it would be the right move.

“It’s not massively different, just a matter of making a number of technical adjustments. My dad made the move from flanker to loosehead during his playing days so it’s not so unusual to make some sort of change.”

Edinburgh head coach Alan Solomons said: “It is terrific news for the club that we have been able to secure the services of Kevin.

“He is an abrasive, physical player who will fit in well at Edinburgh. We are all looking forward to his arrival at the club.”
