The British and Irish Lions defeated South Africa 22-17 in a tense first Test in Cape Town.
The tourists trailed for most of the match but finished the game stronger and can now clinch the series with a victory in the second Test next Saturday.
Here’s how the Lions players rated at the Cape Town Stadium:
13. Elliot Daly
Hammered by Lukhanyo Am in an early tackle and his composure never really recovered on what was a tough afternoon for the outside centre. 6/10 Photo: David Rogers/Getty Images
14. Anthony Watson
Outstanding in the air and was one of the Lions’ better players when the chips were down in the first half. 8/10 Photo: David Rogers/Getty Images
15. Stuart Hogg
Never really had the opportunity to shine in attack but was tidy as the Lions’ last line of defence as he realised his dream of playing in a Lions Test match. 7/10 Photo: Rodger Bosch
16. The replacements
The Lions bench made a far greater impact than South Africa’s. Hamish Watson, pictured, was a lively presence, half-backs Conor Murray and Owen Farrell provided stability when it was needed, and Mako Vunipola delivered a towering performance. Photo: Steve Haag/PA Wire
