Heriot's 74-18 Cartha Queen's Park: Brave Cartha overwhelmed

HERIOT'S eased through to the semi-finals of the BT Cup with a huge win over plucky Cartha Queen's Park at Goldenacre, writes Gary Heatly.

Cartha went into the last-eight tie as big underdogs, but they took the lead in the second minute.

It was a Wayne Burrows penalty which put them 3-0 up, but by the 11th minute Heriot’s were 17-3 to the good after tries from Max Learmonth, Struan Dewar and John Rae. Burrows then got Cartha’s second penalty in the 16th minute before John Semple scored Heriot’s fourth try and it was 24-6.

Iain Wilson was then on the end of a good team move for Heriot’s fifth try and it was 29-6 after 21 minutes.

Credit to Cartha for the next period, when they frustrated the hosts and defended very well.

Replacement Jack Turley went over for Heriot’s sixth try just before the interval.

Six minutes into the second half Heriot’s seventh try came through Martin Bouab and when Semple went over for his second two minutes later they had hit 50 points.

Roan Van Heerden was the next Heriot’s scorer and Jack Turley made it ten tries, but the biggest cheer of the day came when Cartha were awarded a penalty try after 66 minutes. Two more Heriot’s tries came before a late Cartha try by Garrett Doughty.
