Hawks’ title hopes hinge on four wins

Glasgow Hawks take on Hamilton tonight in the RBS National League in the first of four matches that will determine whether they finish first or second.

Despite losing 11-6 in the last minute to current leaders Hawick last Saturday, Hawks know that if they are victorious with bonus points in the quartet of matches against tonight’s opponents, Kelso, Jed-Forest and Hillhead/Jordanhill then they would finish in top spot. If they do not do this and Hawick defeat Jed-Forest in their only remaining match on 23 March, then the Old Anniesland men may have to settle for the play-off spot.

Hamilton will travel to Old Anniesland with other matters on their mind, the Laigh Bent side now just six points clear of the relegation zone and with the teams below them having games in hand.

Glasgow Hawks co-coach Jamie Dempsey said: “It was a good, even contest down at Hawick, but we just could not hold on in the dying moments with a man in the sin-bin. We have refocused quickly now, though, and the guys know exactly what they have to do in the next four matches. Firstly, we must secure a top two spot and then we hope to go on and grab top spot if we can, but we know Hamilton won’t be easy.”

The match kicks-off at 7:30pm.
