With Scotland set to open their championship campaign against France in Paris on 7 February, the 24-year-old now faces a race against time to make himself a part of Vern Cotter’s plans.

However, Warriors are understood to be relieved the damage is not as bad as first feared.

A spokesman for the Scotstoun outfit said last night: “Following a scan at BMI Ross Hall Hospital it’s been confirmed that Rob Harley has tissue damage to both his left knee and left ankle.

“However, he does not require surgery and is likely to be sidelined for several weeks.

“Several other players are undergoing further assessment and investigation.

“The club would like to thank the radiology department at BMI Ross Hall Hospital for all their help this week.”

Meanwhile, Wales hooker Emyr Phillips looks set to miss Wales’ Six Nations campaign as he prepares to undergo surgery on a dislocated shoulder, which will keep him out of action for up to 12 weeks.

Phillips, who was in Wales’ squad for the autumn Test series, suffered the injury in Scarlets’ Guinness Pro12 defeat to the Ospreys on Saturday.

The 27-year-old has three caps.
