Glasgow Warriors sign Canada prop Djustice Sears-Duru

The 21-year-old, who has been capped 16 times, has joined until the end of the season.

Sears-Duru is a loosehead who arrived in Glasgow on Sunday and has trained with the squad this week.

He made his test debut in November 2013 at the age of 19, becoming the youngest prop and the third youngest player to have represented Canada.

His second start for Canada was against the Warriors in a pre-season fixture in Nova Scotia last August.

He played for Canada in all four pool matches at last year’s Rugby World Cup in England and was one of only five players to play in all four of Canada’s 2015 Pacific Nations Cup matches.

A graduate of Canada’s age grade rugby programme, he also spent a year in the Leicester Tigers Academy.

“I’m excited to be in Glasgow and this is a great opportunity for me,” Sears-Duru told the Glasgow Warriors website.

“I talked to [former Glasgow players] DTH [van der Merwe], Connor [Braid] and Taylor [Paris] and they all had good things to say about the club.

“Glasgow play a really good style of rugby and I’m glad to be part of it.

“I’m still young, so hopefully I can learn a lot here and become a better player and continue to play for Canada and do well for Glasgow.”

Warriors head coach Gregor Townsend said: “We’re delighted to welcome Djustice to the club and we look forward to working with him.

“We came up against him in our pre-season fixture over in Canada and he impressed us that day with his raw strength and physicality.

“He is young, keen to learn and will be a great addition to our squad as we enter the final weeks of the season.”
