Glasgow Warriors face champions Exeter Chiefs in Heineken Cup group; Edinburgh draw Sale Sharks and La Rochelle

Glasgow and Edinburgh have learned their opponents for the Heineken Champions Cup campaign after this afternoon’s group stage draw.

Richard Cockerill’s capital side will meet Sale Sharks and La Rochelle in the matches which begin in December.

There will be a Scotstoun return for duo Stuart Hogg and Jonny Gray after Glasgow Warriors drew reigning champions Exeter Chiefs and Lyon as opponents. The English side won the trophy two weeks ago in the delayed final.

In the new-look competition eight clubs qualified from the Guinness PRO14, and the same number followed from the Gallagher Premiership and Top 14 in France.

The clubs were split into two sets of 12 and then into seeded tiers. The top four teams in each 12-team set will qualify for the quarter finals in April next year.

The final is in Marseille on May 22, 2021.

Chiefs won this year’s delayed competition, triumphing over Racing 92 in the final earlier this month.
