The match with Leicester will take place on the weekend of April 4-6. Glasgow have never before made it past the quarter-finals of Europe’s elite club competition and were knocked out last season by Harlequins in the last 16.

Leicester finished third in Pool 1 behind Top 14 heavyweights Bordeaux-Begles and Toulouse. The Tigers suffered an 80-12 thrashing at the hands of Toulouse at Stade Ernest Wallon on Sunday. The holders ran in 12 tries, with captain Antoine Dupont, Ange Capuozzo and Thibaud Flament all scoring doubles. It was Leicester’s heaviest defeat in the competition’s history.

Scotland international Blair Kinghorn played on the wing for Toulouse but wasn’t among the points. Toulouse will be at home to Sale Sharks in the last 16. The other ties are Bordeaux v Ulster, Leinster v Harlequins, Northampton Saints v Clermont-Auvergne, Toulon v Saracens, Castres v Benetton and La Rochelle v Munster. If Glasgow were to defeat Leicester, they would face the winners of Leinster v Harlequins in the quarter-finals.

In the Challenge Cup, Edinburgh will take on the South African side the Lions in the round of 16.

Glasgow, meanwhile, are awaiting medical updates on three key players. Scott Cummings and Gregor Hiddleston were both injured in Saturday’s loss to Quins. Cummings went off early after hurting his arm while Hiddleston had to be helped off in the second half due to an ankle problem. Sione Tuipulotu, the Scotland captain, suffered a pectoral injury in training and it is unclear whether he will be fit for the Six Nations.
