Edinburgh flanker Ross Rennie signs for Bristol

The 28-year-old flanker has scored seven tries in nine games for Bristol and has now signed a permanent deal with the side, whose Director of Rugby is former Scotland head coach Andy Robinson.

Rennie, capped 20 times by Scotland, told Bristol’s official website: “Ever since I arrived at the start of the year I’ve been made to feel incredibly welcome by the players, coaching staff and supporters.

“I had been told that Bristol was a passionate rugby city, but playing in front of our supporters and the interaction that the players have with the fans has really emphasized that. It’s a great place to be.

“I want to be playing in the top flight and regularly representing my country – I’m confident that I can achieve that playing for Bristol.”

“I’d like to thank everybody at Edinburgh Rugby – I’ve had an incredible time playing there and will hold many fond memories.”

Robinson said: “We’re pleased to add Ross to the squad as we continue to build for the new season.

“Ross’ professionalism and consistency in his performances during his relatively short time at the Club have helped drive the quality and standards in the squad.”

Earlier this season, Edinburgh head coach Alan Solomons denied that Rennie’s loan move was a precursor to a permanent switch.

Solomons said in January: “This is a loan and means what it says it is. (Ross) is an Edinburgh player who is being loaned to Bristol.”

Bristol could feature in the Aviva Premiership next season, after finishing top of the Championship and qualifying for the promotion play-offs.

If they reach the English top flight, they could play Edinburgh next season in the new second-tier European Cup competition.
