Denton is one of six changes to the team, with captain Mike Coman moving to blindside flanker and Roddy Grant going across to the openside after Hamish Watson was called up to the bench for Scotland’s RBS Six Nations clash with Italy.

With Ben Toolis also named in the national team replacements, there is a change in the locks, with Ollie Atkins moving up from the bench to take the number four shirt and Anton Bresler to five.

The backs remain largely similar to last week, with the only change being stand-off Jade Te Rure’s promotion to the starting XV.

Edinburgh head coach Alan Solomons insists his side are ready to repay fans after last week’s Guinness Pro12 defeat to Ulster.

The Gunners were frustrated as they slumped to a 20-17 reverse against the Irish province at BT Murrayfield.

It was a bitter blow for the capital club as they try to bridge the four-point gap separating them from Connacht and a place in next year’s European Champions Cup.

But Solomons said: “We are really disappointed with last week’s loss. We have only ourselves to blame. We are determined to put it right this week but are appreciative of the challenge we face in Cardiff.”

Edinburgh: Jack Cuthbert; Dougie Fife, Sam Beard, Phil Burleigh, Tim Visser; Jade Te Rure, Grayson Hart; Rory Sutherland, Neil Cochrane, WP Nel, Ollie Atkins, Anton Bresler, Mike Coman (captain), Roddy Grant, David Denton. Substitutes: Stuart McInally, Grant Shiells, John Andress, F McKenzie, Hugh Blake, Nathan Fowles, Tom Heathcote, Andries Strauss.
