Currie secured a home BT Premiership play-off against Heriot's when they saw off a Gala side who must now beat the still-to-be-determined National Division One runners-up to retain their top flight status, writes Colin Renton at Malleny Park.

The hosts took until the 22nd minute to open the scoring with a James Semple penalty. And they extended their advantage shortly afterwards when Harvey Elms raced in at the corner.

Gala spent the final 12 minutes of the half applying pressure to the home line. That yielded a string of penalties. The Borderers repeatedly kicked for touch and it was only after the fifth award that David O’Hagan went for goal, clawing back three points to send the visitors in at the break 8-3 adrift.

Currie boosted their tally nine minutes after the restart when Matt Goodwin finished off a slick handling move and Semple converted.

Gala hit back with a penalty try, converted by O’Hagan, then went ahead when Chris Weir plunged over and Ewan Scott converted.

There was one final twist when, with three minutes to play, Ross Weston powered over and Semple converted before completing the victory with a last-minute penalty.
