Glasgow head coach Danny Wilson said Fraser Brown will continue as co-captain with Ryan Wilson next season but was happy to make him skipper for what will be the hooker’s 100th appearance for the Warriors against Edinburgh at BT Murrayfield.

Edinburgh-born Brown, 31, who has 50 Scotland caps, will lead a starting team out with only three changes from the one which lost 30-15 in the capital last Saturday.

“The two guys going into the season as captains will be Ryan and Fraser,” said Wilson. “Going into these two games we agreed that Fraser would be given the opportunity to be on field captain as first port or call. He is a hooker in the front line of everything. His 100th appearance is a fantastic honour and achievement for him.”

The changes see George Horne replace Ali Price at scrum-half, Tom Gordon come into the back row and Stafford McDowall start at centre inside Nick Grigg. On the bench there are potential debuts for props Charlie
Capps and summer arrival Enrique Pieretto, who are both named in a matchday 23 for the first time.

Wilson also revealed that superstar forward Leone Nakarawa was on his way back from Fiji.

“His flight is today and should come back today,” said the coach. “That is what has all been planned and what we are envisaging. He has a two-week quarantine to go through, not so much based on country but the airports he is going through. Another downside of getting these guys back is those bits of pieces after that like quarantine. After that we will get him in and assess him.

“We have two weeks probably [before the 2020-21 season starts),” added Wilson.

“The unknown is the assessment when he comes back and assessing where he is.

“We then have a couple of weeks of training before the next league game so let us get on a plane first and get him back and assess him and get him on the plane from there.

“[Fijian hooker] Mesu Dolokoto is back. He got back and is into his quarantine.”
