Ayr thrash GHK 60-0

AYR cruised into their expected last-four place in the BT Scottish Cup with this ten-try demolition of their visitors from Glasgow, writes Matt Vallance at Millbrae.

Home prop Steven Longwell, on his way to the Man of the Match vote, crashed over for the opening try in five minutes.

Craig Gossman, Frazier Climo, Blair Macpherson, and Gossman again crossed for tries to leave the Premiership hosts, with the help of three Climo conversions, leading 31-0 at the interval.

Richard Dalgleish, twice in two minutes, and Macpherson touched down in the first ten minutes of the second half. Climo goaled Macpherson’s second try and it was 48-0 to Ayr with half an hour to play.

A brave fight-back from GHK slowed Ayr’s try-scoring, and tested their defence, before Peter McCallum came off the bench to bring-up the half century of points in 69 minutes.

Then, even though forced to play the final five minutes a man down, after Stuart Fenwick was yellow-carded for a deliberate knock-on, Ayr had the final word, when Gossman completed his hat-trick and skipper Ross Curle added the extras with the last kick of the game, to bring-up the 60 points.
