Rugby: Under 20s thrashed in Athlone

SCOTLAND'S under-20 rugby side suffered a hefty 44-15 loss against their Irish counterparts in Athlone last night.

Edinburgh Accies stand off Alex Blair edged the Scots ahead with two early penalties.

However, that was followed by an Irish points blitz before third kick from Blair left the visitors 30-9 adrift at the interval.

Two more Blair penalties were all the Scots had to show for their second-half efforts and Scotland coach Eamon John conceded that his side had been well beaten.

He said: "We were second best to the best side we've come up against in the tournament and Ireland thoroughly deserved the win."
