Rugby: SRU set to ban dressing room cameras

Scotland rugby bosses are set to slam the door on plans to allow television cameras into the team dressing room during next year's world cup.

Host broadcaster, Sky New Zealand, are keen to have a fixed camera installed amidst further claims that coverage would include on-the-spot interviews with players leaving the field during and after a match.

A meeting is scheduled for next week in London to discuss the matter but the Scottish position is already being made clear and is apparently in line with other home unions' view.

An SRU spokesman is reported as telling today's Times newspaper: "As far as we are concerned the changing room is sancrosanct.

"In the past we have allowed a camera in for a 60-second supervised sweep of the changing room before a match and also allowed a camera to watch the kitman setting up.

"But we do not think it is appropriate to have a fixed camera in place for a tournament as important as the World Cup.

"Once the door is closed it is closed."

Rugby World Cup head Kit McConnell still appears hopeful.

He said: "We think it could be a fantastic opportunity to showcase the tournament but we have to strike a balance.

"While some countries would be happy with it we can't forget what might be important to others."

The IRB are likely to give the idea the thumbs up but need overall approval.
