Rugby: Scot Sevens confirmed for Delhi

SCOTLAND will be represented at this year's Delhi Commonwealth Games rugby sevens, it has been confirmed.

The axe hovered over Scotland's team but concerns that they would not be competitive were eased by a spirited showing at the Edinburgh leg of the IRB circuit last month. There, Scotland defeated three Commonwealth countries – Fiji, South Africa and Wales – on their way to topping their first day group then eventually winning the second tier Shield event.

Meanwhile, the final leg of the Edinburgh state schools rugby sevens Series takes place tomorrow at Cavalry Park with Portobello, Boroughmuir and Royal High still in contention.

• SCOTLAND'S under-20 rugby team face a crucial encounter with Tonga at the world championships on Sunday to determine who enters the knockout stages. After losing to Australia the Scots were thrashed 73-0 in what Murrayfield bosses are today describing as a "masterclass" from young Springbok opponents.

• EDINBURGH prop Kyle Traynor has been called up to Scotland's tour of Argentina as a precaution after Gloucester's Ally Dickinson suffered an abdominal upset.

Traynor, capped three times last Autumn, had been due to go to the Nations Cup in Romania but his place on that trip will now be taken by Edinburgh colleague David Young.

• BOROUGHMUIR have named clubs' international centre Malcolm Clapperton as their captain for season 2010-11.
