Rugby: Rugby legend Hastings believes Visser can be a British and Irish Lion

Edinburgh Rugby winger Tim Visser has been set another challenge as he closes on Irishman Tommy Bowe and attempts to become the top try scorer in Rabo Direct Pro 12 history.

According to Scottish rugby legend Scott Hastings, it is entirely possible that the
Dutch-born ace, who qualified to wear the thistle on residency only a few months ago, could end the season as a British and Irish Lion.

Visser, included in Edinburgh’s team to entertain Italian side Zebre tonight, has 41 touchdowns to Bowe’s 46.

Hastings says: “He (Visser) could be a Lion but there is a step up from playing Rabo Direct to international rugby.

“He has to go looking for the ball and be a dummy runner on a lot of moves. It is how he weighs up chances to continue his good form that will count.”

Hastings, speaking at the launch of a Macmillan Cancer Support project to raise £1 million by staging the world’s biggest coffee morning on
September 28, has been impressed by Visser’s work ethic.

“He knows there are still weaknesses within his game.

“What I like is the fact he is a Dutchman but one who is proud to play for Scotland.”

Visser has started the season with a bang by scoring four tries in two matches.
