Rugby: Preston lodge their claim for promotion with comprehensive victory

Preston LODGE continued their charge towards a National Two slot for next season on Saturday with a win over Gordonians.

The 44-3 victory in East Lothian means that if they win their final two matches in National Three then they will be promoted alongside Marr.

The first half was quite tight at the weekend, PL taking a 12-3 lead into the break. Their tries in that period came from Dougie Thomson, filling in at stand-off, and Paul Voy.

In the second half PL turned on the style to score six more tries and delight the hme crowd. Jonathan Brash scored the first with a great solo run and Voy's second made it 22-3. Winger Ali Wood then showed good pace to grab the day's fifth try and Euan Eales notched up number six. Another fine solo effort came from Chris Dixon in the 74th minute and Dougie Naismith wrapped things up against the tiring northerners.

Forrester are still not safe from the drop after they went down 57-21 at home to GHK.

Meanwhile, Lasswade can win the National One title this coming weekend after thery defeated Murrayfield Wanderers 25-19 on Saturday. Dale Robertson was among the tries meaning the trophy would be theirs with a win over Garnock at Hawthornden in six days. Linlithgow beat Irvine 30-27 and RHC won 21-7 at Ellon, but Edinburgh University and Livingston both lost. Broughton won 86-0 at Liberton in East Two to remain on track for the title.
