Rugby: Peters put Dunbar 11 points clear

Dunbar skipper Jamie Peters led by example on Saturday as the Hallhill men kept up their unbeaten season by seeing off rivals Dalkeith in RBS East Two.

The East Lothian side have been untouchable in the last few months but really had to battle hard to see off a Dalkeith team who put everything they had into this one.

In the end the hosts came out 32-18 winners to extend their lead at the top to 11 points ahead of the final match of the year away to Penicuik.

Captain Peters returned to the club in the summer after several seasons at Haddington and his leadership and composure has spurred Dunbar on in most games.

And that was the case again in this one, his try from stand-off being added to by tries by wingers John Peebles and James Kelso. Peters also kicked the remainder of the points in a game that was still in the mix until Kelso’s well-taken try.

Dunbar president Jim Callow said: “It was a really tough match and in the first half Dalkeith really came at us well. After the break the boys stepped things up a gear though and kept the good run going.”

The defeat sees Dalkeith slip to third after Hawick Harlequins defeated Earlston 25-7 in an all-Borders affair.

All other fixtures in East Two were off as they were in East One, East Three and National One due to the bad weather.
