Rugby: Penicuik pick up crucial win

PENICUIK got themselves out of the Scottish Hydro East One relegation zone with a hard-fought win over fellow strugglers Edinburgh Northern at Inverleith Park.

The 29-19 victory was only the Midlothian side's fourth of the campaign and leaves the Capital side now occupying a relegation slot. Both sides are in a dogfight with bottom side Broughton to stay up.

Elsewhere in the division, second-placed Portobello toughed out a 27-22 win at Hawick Harlequins to keep up the pressure on leaders North Berwick. Porty are now four points behind the East Lothian outfit with five games to play. Lismore stay in seventh after a 15-7 defeat at home to Earlston.

In East Two, Queensferry have now shipped over 700 points during the campaign after they went down 119-0 away to Gala YM. Inverleith beat bottom side Liberton 50-3 at Arboretum. RHC Cougars hit form to defeat Annan 39-10 in National One and stay in mid-table, but Livingston went down 49-22 after the long trip to Ellon.

In National Three, Forrester recorded a superb 35-25 away win at Gordonians to move themselves out of the relegation zone. They are now six points clear of Trinity Accies, who are second bottom after they lost 27-7 at GHK. And Ross High are all but safe after a 24-14 home win over Aberdeenshire.
