Rugby: New-look Linlithgow earn second victory of campaign

Linlithgow gained their second win of the National One season with a hard-fought 34-18 victory over Langholm.

They bounced back from last week's loss at Greenock Wanderers with three tries in the first half with the bonus point secured after the break.

Among the try scorers were centres Gordon White and Andy Birrell, while teenage back-row Ally Wood showed up well on his debut.

Wood is the third member of last year's Linlithgow Academy first XV to have played for the club's top team this season, following in the footsteps of prop Scott Herdman and second-row Dougie Robb.

And in all eight players have made debuts this year with the new-look team eager to kick on from Saturday's win that has left them in mid-table. This coming weekend they go to Livingston.

Lasswade are still unbeaten at the top of the table after edging out Greenock Wanderers 24-21 at Hawthornden.

In the second-half new stand-off Nick Wood, formerly of Stewart's Melville, kicked three penalties to seal victory and keep them on track for another promotion.

Livingston are second after a 25-15 win over RHC Cougars, while Murrayfield Wanderers lost 37-12 at home to Garnock and Edinburgh University defeated East Kilbride for their first win of the season.

North Berwick are second in National Three after seeing off Ross High 39-5 to make it three wins from four since promotion. Preston Lodge lost 18-12 at Cambuslang, but Forrester are fourth after defeating Cumbernauld 31-26 in a cracking game.
