Rugby: New Edinburgh signing reveals Heineken dream

New Edinburgh signing Esteban Lozada has revealed a major influence is the chance of finally making a Heineken European Cup rugby debut.

Speaking for the first time since flying in from his native Argentina - the former Toulon second row has 16 caps for the Pumas gained between 2006 and facing England at Twickenham last year - he said: "I am looking forward to playing Magners League with Welsh, Irish and Italian teams as well as Glasgow.

"And, of course, I have never played Heineken Cup which seems to be really, really good.

"I am excited for both challenges."

Toulon recently emerged from the French second division in spectacular fashion but have yet to feature in the continent's blue riband competition.

Lozada added: "I have always enjoyed UK rugby. This is where rugby was born.

"Every time I have played against British teams I really enjoy it.

"It is much more fun than French rugby and is going to make me a better player. I can develop rugby here with my team-mates."

Lozada's Test record includes home and away victories over England. He was also part of the Argentina squad that drew a series 1-1 with Scotland in 2008.

The 28-year-old said: "It is going to be funny being team-mates with some of those I played against either in Rosario or Buenos Aires two years ago."

Meanwhile, Edinburgh are expected to unveil their official Magners League fixture schedule next week.
