Rugby: New Edinburgh deal for Cox

Edinburgh RUGBY were today due to reward Sean Cox with a contract extension after the summer signing from Sale Sharks grabbed his opportunity with both hands in early season games.

The 25-year-old utility forward has appeared in six of Edinburgh’s nine Rabo Direct Pro 12 league games either at second row or flanker although it will be for his role as an enforcer when London Irish were beaten in the Heineken European Cup at the Madejski Stadium that he will be best remembered so far.

Coming off the bench after David Denton was the victim of a high tackle, Cox provided some extra steel in showing Edinburgh would not be intimidated albeit a citing for reckless use of an arm on the perpetrator of the unsavoury challenge on his colleague did cost him a one week suspension.

Edinburgh are also expected to announce a squad for Friday’s home game with Aironi when they hope to maintain their record of never having lost to Italian opposition in the league at Murrayfield.
