Rugby: Murrayfield back on track

John Mackenzie scored two tries as Murrayfield Wanderers bounced back from an opening day defeat to see off Irvine 47-7 in National One.

The Capital side ran in seven tries to get their campaign up and running. As well as the two scores by No. 8 Mackenzie, the other tries came from player/coach Rupeni Ragia, fellow Fijian Apenai Kororua, Jonny Lyons, captain Arran Richards and Scott Fraser.

Scrum-half Murray Johnstone kicked the remainder of the points and Wanderers team manager James Bartolo said: "The guys had to work hard to create the chances and when they got them they took them so it was a pleasing performance ahead of our trip up to Ellon this coming weekend."
