Rugby: Munro scales the heights as Portobello pummel sorry Langholm

Hamish MUNRO bagged 22 points as Portobello put in a great performance to see off Langholm 52-0 in RBS East One on Saturday.

The Edinburgh side are now fifth in the table and will be looking forward to taking on leaders Livingston this coming weekend after this polished display against the Borderers at Cavalry Park.

In the first half Porty built up a 24-0 lead thanks to tries from Rory Thomson, Cammy Walker and Fraser Boyter and nine points from the boot of stand-off Munro.

After the interval four more tries came from Munro, Chris Thomas, Chris Sinclair and Boyter again and Munro kicked all the conversions.

With second placed Preston Lodge seeing their match with Dunbar called off due to a frozen pitch Livingston extended their lead at the top to five points. They were pushed hard by North Berwick though before coming out on top 15-0 thanks to tries from Jamie King, Ross Neil and Alasdair Scobie.

RHC Cougars won 21-3 at Linlithgow while Duns defeated Berwick.

In RBS East Two Forrester dug in well to defeat Trinity Accies 10-0 at Bangholm, but other local clubs all lost.

Lismore went down 62-18 to Hawick Linden, Ross High lost 42-5 at Hawick Harlequins and Edinburgh Northern were beaten 32-21 by Earlston.

The top two in RBS East Three both won, Chris Clitheroe bagging a hat-trick of tries as Inverleith defeated RDVC 50-5 while Leith won 42-7 at Liberton. Broughton won 48-15 at Walkerburn, but Penicuik lost to St Boswells 17-24.
