Rugby: Livingston lose unbeaten record

There was a shock in RBS East One on Saturday when previously unbeaten Livingston lost their first match of the season.

The Midlothian men had won 13 league matches and progressed to the RBS Edinburgh Regional Shield final prior to the weekend and were only one of two clubs in the country with a 100 per cent record, along with Marr. However, Duns – who had only won five of 14 league matches prior to Saturday – managed to secure an 11-3 away win against them.

Livingston’s team was missing a number of key men who will be keen to get back in time for the regional knock-out final against RHC Cougars this coming weekend. And in terms of the league it has given Preston Lodge a glimmer of hope that they can still snatch the title from Livingston’s grasp.

The Leith tries came from Doddie McHardy (2), Ryan Burgess, Russell Smith, Matt Cameron, Alessandro Bettini and Rory Clarke.

Both they and Inverleith now have four matches left to play.
