Rugby: Livingston down Borderers

Livingston president Peter Bon has praised the “unbelievable effort” from his side after they defeated Gala YM in the RBS Shield semi-final on Saturday.

The West Lothian men welcomed the Borderers to Almond Park having played the regional final against RHC Cougars only a few days before, but they dug deep to win 27-22 and book a place at Murrayfield on April 20.

The points for Livingston from tries through Stevie Logan and Ross Neil while Craig Bolan had a great day with the boot kicking five penalties and one conversion. Gala YM, from the division below Livingston, battled to the end and scored the match’s last try, but the hosts held on.

With their second XV having won their league and their under-18s winning a semi-final at the weekend things are going well for the club.

Bon said: “It really is so great for us to be going to Murrayfield and hopefully we will have won the RBS East One title by then too.”

In the final they will meet Marr who won 44-20 away to Aberdeenshire in their semi.

There was disappointment in the RBS Bowl semi-final for Broughton though, losing out 27-0 away to Oban Lorne.

Oban Lorne face Grangemouth Stags in the final. 
On rearranged league duty on Saturday there were losses for Dunbar, North Berwick and RHC Cougars in RBS East One.

Forrester went third in RBS East Two after a 44-8 win over Edinburgh Northern, while top two Leith and Inverleith both won matches in RBS East Three.
