Rugby: Last-gasp Marsh try hands victory to Preston Lodge

Nick MARSH was the last-minute try-scoring hero as Preston Lodge became only the second team to defeat Marr in National Three this season.

The 24-20 win at the Pennypit puts PL eight points behind the Ayrshire outfit at the top end of the table and made up for the agonising 23-22 loss they suffered in Troon earlier in the campaign.

In the early stages, the game was very tight before PL scored two good tries to give themselves a 12-0 lead. They came from winger Jonathan Brash and captain Blair Cowan, with the latter being converted.

Early in the second half, Marr clawed things back to 12-6 before winger Ali Wood scored a converted try for the hosts.

The leaders then woke up and posted 14 unanswered points, meaning they led 20-19 heading into the last ten minutes.

PL were not done yet though and in the last minute hooker Marsh crashed over to the delight of the home support.

Elsewhere, North Berwick won 13-0 at Gordonians and Forrester beat Ross High 10-5.

In National One, leaders Lasswade won 21-6 at RHC.

There were also wins for Edinburgh University, Linlithgow and Livingston, the latter 7-6 at East Kilbride.
