Rugby: Lasswade into last four

Lasswade managed to avoid the snow and rain which enveloped almost the entire national rugby fixture list to move a step closer to cup silverware for a second successive season.

Victory in the National Shield over Greenock Wanderers was secured thanks to the hard work of volunteers who cleared the snow-covered pitch, ensuring this fixture was one of only a handful that went ahead.

In a repeat of last year's National Bowl final, the hosts proved too strong, outmuscling a gutsy Wanderers side 22-10.

A brace of tries from centre Bernie Hennesy followed an early score from James Elliot to give the home side a comfortable margin, with Gavin Brown kicking the other points.

A converted try and a penalty hauled Greenock back into the game, but their efforts proved in vain as the hosts held out to grab the semi-final spot.
